Testimonials for Andrea Felix

Andrea Felix, affectionately called Felix by her friends, colleagues, and students, was my first student and has been by my side since the inception of our school. She has evolved into a principal member of our group and is the current owner of the domain name, High Desert Tai Chi. She often leads the group in my absence and is beloved by all of our members. For the past ten years she has taught and trained students of her own.

In 2023, she was certified as an “Expert Instructor”, one of only two ever to receive this designation from our school.

Felix is an exceptional teacher. She is also an exceptional student and can trace her study through diligent hard work back through the full breadth and depth of the lineage. Her areas of expertise include: Cheng Man-ch’ing’s 37 Posture Yang Short Form, Robert Tangora’s Spinal Chi Ging set, Wei Xi Lan’s Old Six Roads Imperial Yang T’ai Chi, Dr John Fung’s IYTC Sword Form, as well as numerous Silk Reeling practices and complimentary Chi Gung practices.

Felix has put in the time. An essential feature of Kung Fu (excellence) is the dual notion of work and time. Felix has this. She has Kung Fu. She also cares deeply about the work and gives from her heart and soul with integrity and kindness.

It’s been a great honor to have her collegial companionship these many years, as well as her friendship. I can unequivocally endorse and support her. It’s been an honor to know her and call her friend.

Hands folded in respect and appreciation.

I have been attending Felix’s Tai Chi class for well over a year. During that time I have noticed sometimes surprising insights into my own body mechanics and posture which relate to a lifelong struggle with vertigo and balance issues.

One of the main ones is a tendency to “lean forward “ in a way that indicates "trying too hard”. This may sound simple but it is actually very profound. Every day I am able to realign myself in a more healthy and relaxed posture. Thanks to Felix’s enduring patience, expert guidance and dedication I feel better every time I walk out of her class. That she makes it fun is also a plus!

I met Felix at a Tai Chi/Qi Gong ZOOM class during COVID in 2020. She was demonstrating some Qi Gong forms with such a powerful grace that I knew I would benefit greatly from having lessons with her. "Benefit greatly", I learned, was an understatement.

Felix's knowledge of the forms, external and internal, paired with her years of teaching, both Tai Chi and Qi Gong, combine to create a style of teaching that focuses on her student's needs and abilities.

What a wonderful teacher!

I joined Felix’s Tai Chi class in February 2024 and I am totally hooked!!

I have Sjogren’s Syndrome along with other physical ailments and when I was at Johns Hopkins Clinic, it was suggested to me that Tai Chi might be something that would be very beneficial for me physically. It has helped me organize my body, helped minimize my constant joint pains, helped with my balance, a result of aging, and also nurtured my spiritual side. It is a very meditative process.

Felix has helped me work through the process of learning the form in a simple way, step-by-step, with incredible attention to detail which has helped me to understand the process.

Her patience has made me feel very comfortable. I never feel self-conscious if I can’t quite get the form right and at the same time she has made the experience very appealing. I always feel great when I leave the class, better than when I arrived!
